MoJo Aussie
When I met MoJo three days ago, she was huddled under the sink in the shelter bathroom. She growled at me to let me know how scared she was. (which was quite obvious). So I sat on the floor with my body turned away from her. After a while she came forward and sniffed. Then I offered a treat, still not looking directly at her. In an hour I was able to lead her to my car.
Getting away from the shelter helped. Many dogs are frightened by all the noise. On the ride home she relaxed enough to let me pet her. Then she saw our dogs and wanted NOTHING to do with them. She wouldn’t even go near the lab pups who are younger than she is.
Three days later she is able to hang out with all of them. She loves to play fetch with her doggy jacket (I haven’t tried putting it on her), and she has even initiated play with Dooley who is her age.

Deshi with Pookie
No, not me. Pookie is finally settled in, and ready to have the freedom of the whole yard. Crow became his best buddy, so I let him start the training. He showed Pookie the perimeter and started to teach him not to run away. But Crow doesn’t understand the fine points of training.
Deshi, our husky has taken over the next phase of training. When Pookie starts to run, Deshi gets out in front of him, and then loops back into the center of the yard. Pookie follows as a puppy should. Then Deshi relaxes and lets Pookie wander around as long as he stays close.
I squatted down in the yard, watching. Deshi looped around again, and I motioned for him to come to me. He came and sat beside me. Pookie followed. He was still afraid to come very close, but had the experience of being near a human without feeling trapped.

Pookie
Pookie is our newest foster. The photo is through the fence because when we get close, he runs into his box. He was completely feral when we got him, and bit into my glove. It was not an attack, but simply a fear bite. He is eating well and playing with the other dogs, so he will be fine in a few weeks.

This little guy was wandering around alone and trapped by Animal Control. He bit my glove when I held him for his vaccination.

Pookie, our newest feral
The pack have met him, but he’s too scared to respond tonight. So, we start again.

Driving home in a cold rain. Kid says “Was that a kitten ?” So I turn around and slowly drive back to see if that black blob was alive. Pull off the road and it runs to the car, right in front of the car pulling around me.br /br /Soaked, shivering, fur and bones, scrapes on it’s face, but otherwise OK. Damn, we’re got five dogs in the house, plus the two who won’t come in. But it’s safe til we find it a home.

The good news — Crow got brave, came in the house, and got up on the couch.
The bad news — He had a chew toy, and after a while he mistook the couch arm for the chew toy. Tore a hole in the fabric. Oh well.
